After almost one & a half years of working from home due to the Covid-19 pandemic, companies are opening their offices again. In this post, we will read the impact of returning to office after work from home.

As people are getting vaccinated now and the danger of the rampant spread of the virus is dying down, it is time to return to work physically.

It will take some time to get used to the strict schedule and pressure of office work as working from home was more flexible and comfortable.

Returning to Office After Work from Home

People would snack while working, scroll through their phones in between meetings or assignments and even take quick naps now and then. Say goodbye to all those homely comforts.

Here are the significant issues you will face while returning to office after work from home and some tips on how to deal with them:

Appearance and Schedule

At home, we have gotten used to working without a second thought to our appearance. Many people simply wake up five minutes before office timings and sit down at their laptops after splashing some water on their faces.

No one bothers even to change clothes, and they simply wear a shirt if they have to participate in a video conference. All of this will, of course, drastically change when we have to report back to work.

To prepare yourself for this eventuality, start fixing your schedule from this day onwards. Start waking up two hours before you have to be at work like you used to in the era before the pandemic. This will also help fix your appearance and laziness as you will have plenty of time to shower and change into formal clothes.

From Video Conferencing to Actual Physical Meetings

The past year & a half have been a blur of countless video conferences on your laptop. After such a long time of communicating through technology, it will take some time to get used to traditional physical meetings.

You will have to bid goodbye to wear comfortable clothes under your shirt. You will no longer be able to join the meetings at the very last minute as you will have to be physically present at the office.

Speaking and communication skills will no doubt have been affected during this period of working from home. You can prepare yourself to join some club or association where you can practice your speaking skills in front of actual people. A book club is always a good idea.

Constant Surveillance

At home, you had the freedom of working however you wanted to. You could have a late breakfast, an early lunch, or simply some tasty snacks while working on your assignments.

You could also scroll through your phone comfortably when things felt too tedious or take a quick nap when there wasn’t enough on your plate to keep you busy. All of this was possible because there was no one supervising you.

At work, you will be under the constant eye of your supervisor, so all these activities will have to come to an abrupt halt. To prepare yourself for this, start working under your own surveillance for some time.

Force yourself to focus on your work without any distractions so that when you return to work, the change won’t be too drastic for you. Also, your boss will be happy to see you working productively and efficiently from day one.

Conclusion

Return to the office is on the horizon now as life is slowly resetting back to the way it was before Covid-19 wreaked havoc across the globe. It is essential that you reset your habits as well so that you will be able to adapt to work at the office appropriately.
