Business information systems provide data with which businesses can run effectively and efficiently using computer systems. One can argue that major businesses are run on projections and analysis based on input by their business information systems experts, making this sector a part of the puzzle that every good business must be built on.

We can see that many organizations rely on people from this particular background to design, manage, and implement their Artificial Intelligence systems and their business models. Business Information Technology (BIT) uses technology to galvanize and improve business processes using technology, hence being a supplementary addition to any organization’s Information Technology (IT) wing, thus making careers focused on it a very viable option to proceed with.

Now let us look at some of the career options that await an individual who has a background in Business Information Systems and some organizations and sectors that greatly benefit from this system. 

1. Software Architect 

Their primary function is to build and design software. You will have to create, maintain, audit, and improve the existing system, often working with a systems analyst or other architects, testing both hard and software systems for diagnostic and testing purposes. 

2. Support Specialists or IT Technical Support Officers

Providing expert maintenance help on the employee front. Technical support has to monitor and maintain the computer systems and networks of an entire organization. Large organizations are heavily reliant on their networks functioning seamlessly, and hence it is crucial to ensure the correct running of the systems. 

3. Data Scientists

Organizations have data collection and usage hardwired into their business model. It is the role of the data scientist to convert all this collected data into meaningful information that will be of some relevance to the company. You will be required to analyze raw data and find patterns that are then used to solve problems. The data must be extracted from various sources such as machine learning, algorithms, etc., and made available to these businesses in a simple and engaging language. This job requires the right balance between technical and communication skills.   

4. System Analysts

Working closely with the chief officers and business analysts to set up a sustainable and efficient business plan backed by data. To be a systems analyst, you will need a high level of technical proficiency and comprehensive insights into the workings of a large organization. You will be required to examine and analyze systems, business models, and system requirements while also testing and implementing feasible solutions. Your major role will be to liaise between internal and external clients and stakeholders. 

5. Quality Assurance Managers

Roles include ensuring product, system, or program quality and overseeing and supervising new programs and tests running different systems. 

6. E-Commerce Developer

Supervising as well as developing content as well as programs in the continually booming e-commerce sector. The main skill sets to be used here are HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, etc. Developers are also required to work in tandem with graphic designers and create and test applications for websites. 

7. Cyber Security Analyst

This job requires you to safeguard the database as well as the private affairs of the company online. This may involve protecting the entire technological infrastructure from a wide range of criminal activity. You will have to monitor the networks, identify and detect potential security threats, analyze these threats and report on them, either resolving them or controlling their adverse impact on the systems. 

Having an information systems degree will also help you add different specialist skills to your resume, thus making you a viable asset. You will also be able to pick up certain skills such as problem-solving or time management and develop skills such as interpreting the employer’s information-related needs and helping them mitigate any inconsistency or requirement.
